• Life isn’t a fairy tale
• Let the world decide
• Good work is never disappointing
Results from the research carried out by the University of Pennsylvania indicated that grit is a characteristic directly linked to success. But what happens when you just don’t feel like trying anymore? How do successful people seem to snap themselves out of a funk to stay the course so well?
Below are some of the ways through which I constantly remind myself of whenever I feel like giving up.
Your Mind is a Suggestions Production Industry
You will realize that every suggestion you ever had was a result of a certain thought. At this very moment, my mind is suggesting that I am feeling tired. It is simply making a suggestion that I should give up and consider taking up a much simpler and easier path.
However, if I take my time, I will be able to identify new suggestions. My mind may also be suggesting that I should carry on since I will feel better after accomplishing the task at hand. It is suggesting that I will be showing respect to the identity that I am striving to build by sticking to the schedule. In simple terms, it is suggesting that I have the will power to complete the task even when I do not feel the same way.
Remember, a suggestion is not an order. They are just options and I have the power to choose the option that I intend to follow.
Discomfort is not permanent
All the tasks that we perform daily or weekly are habits that are over quickly. Your report, for instance, will be completed by tomorrow morning. You will be done with your workout within an hour or two. And in the same manner, this article will be completed in just a moment.
Life today is very easier than it has ever been before. About 300 years ago, people had to kill their own food and build their houses. If not, they would simply die. In today’s generation, we whine about everything, including our iPhone chargers.
Always maintain perspective. Discomfort is temporary and will eventually come to an end. Let every moment of discomfort strengthen you.
Good Work Is Never Disappointing
Theodore Roosevelt, a great philosopher once said, “Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” So often it appears that we all want to do easy, helpful and respectable work but we rarely want to make a little extra struggle in our work. We want our stomachs to be completely flat and our muscles to be lean and strong but, but we are not willing to go through another workout. We desire and wish for excellent final results, but we do not want to experience and learn from the failed attempts that always precede success.
Very many people would want to win a golden medal but very few actually strive through thick and thin to achieve this goal.
No one has ever felt bad after doing a successful endeavor. There are tasks that are completely difficult in the beginning but they all turn out to be worth the struggle. The mere act of attempting to partake a difficult task is an act of courage and worth appreciation.
Life Is Not a Fairy Tale
We do not live in a fantasy world. Wake up and realize that this is life. Life is a principle that is based on the concept of an action always has an equal and opposite reaction to it. We must overcome distractions by having to go through the pain of discipline. The very essence of our lives is defined by this concept. Life is all about making a decision on whether to give up or to persevere.
Life is not a rehearsal and we do not have the time to recollect and change it once it has passed. Spend your life by making yourself proud and not wasting even a single moment.
Even when you feel like giving up, show up. Let the world decide.
Get after it,
